Above the Clouds
From five and a half miles up, the buildings along the shoreline are little more than specks, the sandy white beaches no more than thin lines. Anyone who is building castles there has become invisible to my naked eye.
I ask for a window seat whenever I fly because the view never fails to fill me with awe. “How small we are,” I think to myself, “How tiny even our largest creations appear. “ Whole sprawling cities look like postage stamps from 29,000 feet.
How does it all become so intense at ground level? So tangled and complex?
The shadows of the clouds sweep across the ocean and the landscape, blocking the sun’s rays. Yet, they are nothing more than water vapor condensed by the cold air. Given a little warmth, they dissolve or fall as rain.
Maybe that’s all our troubles are —a condensation of thoughts that block the light. Maybe all we need is a little more warmth, a little more loving, and they, too, would dissolve fall away.
A Song for Friends and Lovers
.
Let the clouds come, we don’t care.
Bring on the shining rain.
Today we raise our merry song for all the friends and lovers
Whose sunshine cannot be subdued.
Oh, let us gather here today and raise a happy noise
To celebrate the hearts so sweet in all the girls and boys
Who walk together, hand in hand.
Let us chirp their sharing and let us chirp their endless smiles.
Let us raise a cheery clamor for all the long and winding miles
they travel together, loving.
Oh today we sing the valentines,
The lovers and the friends,
Whose glad affection gives life warmth and worth and light that never ends, and shines beyond all time.
In the Spirit of the Season
What a pageant! What a festival! Symbols and traditions from every corner of the globe all poured together into a few days at year’s end in one rollicking, ringing, joyous celebration.
All to say, “Be merry; be of good cheer.”
All to bring light to the darkness.
All to wish for ourselves and for one another peaceful hearts, filled with good will.
May the spirit of the season flame within you, lighting your way with hope and warming your heart with love and joy.
The Warmth of Happiness
Spread a little happiness; share a little warmth today. Light a candle, flash a smile, touch a hand.
Tell someone she’s amazing. Tell someone that you appreciate his efforts and contributions.
Open a door, give a wink, say thank you, say hello.
Make a call, send a note. Spread some warmth. Share a little happiness today.
You’ll love how good it makes you feel.
The Warmth of Happiness
Like a fire on a cold winter night, happiness offers warmth to all who come near.
Whether it’s leaping with spirit, or simply glowing deep within, happiness emits the essence of life in all its radiant joy. Step into its circle and you immediately feel its welcoming warmth. Special receptors in your brain pick it right up, and your heart knows it, too.
It melts barriers, opens the door to friendliness, prompts you to relax and invites you to roast a marshmallow or two. It speaks to your fundamental cravings for shared humanness, for ease of being, for light in the darkness, warmth in the cold.
It’s a good idea always to carry little happiness matches in your back pocket. Strike ‘em anywhere when you need them; they light every time.
