Waking to Ecstasy

Snowy Pines.

I wake and the day shivers through my being.  My cells sparkle with joy.

I inhale the morning; my eyes greet its soft light. I sense the possibilities waiting for my choices. I am rich beyond all telling.

I nestle into the warmth and wiggle my toes in joy.  Snow is falling outside the window, shimmering in the rising sun.

I stretch full length, marveling at the easy motion of muscle and bone, moved by a single thought.  I rise and dress in soft garments.

In my kitchen, I cook oatmeal with raisins and watch blue jays flit in the snowy branches of the lilac as the sun falls through the pines.

I pour fresh coffee into a mug and pull open the thick  skin of a tangerine.  It’s juice rolls down my fingers.

I am awash in miracles and thanksgiving and the holiness of the morning sings on.

The Season of Letting Go

Leaves Sink Beneath a Stream

Now is the season of letting go, of releasing into time’s stream all that is lifeless and brittle, all that no longer serves.

Loose the stained leaves from your story, the pages of blaming and grudges, the images of sorrow and regret. They are but dreams, you know.

Let them go.  It’s as easy as waking.  Let them ride the winds like phantoms into yesterday and fade into her depths.

White tomorrows wait to fill their spaces. The globe will soon tilt toward the light, and possibilities will shimmer down around us like snowflakes on a winter morning.

Waking to the Light

SunriseOnce more the swift sun rises, pouring its limitless light across the sky.  Spread open your arms and embrace its splendor.  Let it sing its possibilities into your soul and wake the very best in you.

Today you can live with graciousness and ease.  Today you can drink the exuberant Yes of life and trail peace and love wherever you go.

On this day, if you so choose, you can reach higher, laugh more, be more forgiving, dream new dreams.  You can find more wonder, dare more kindness, create more luck, sing more songs.

See the day dawn, feel its hunger for your participation in its joy.  Watch its light trail you, feeding on your crisp thoughts, your mouth-watering choices, your delicious actions, reveling in them, fueling its passion with everything you do.  Your name is written in the day’s heart.  You are why the sun rises, why the day dawns.   Make the most of it; spend it well.

Waking to Happiness

Waking to HappinessMy alarm clock and the rising sun are coinciding these days so that I wake to the painted sky of the morning’s first light.  The sheer luminosity of it cuts right through the lingering haze of sleep, and I gaze in rapt awe as the earth wakes to a new day.

“Gosh, I love waking to happiness,” I thought to myself this morning.  “Waking to happiness.”  The phrase quietly echoed inside my head.  Yes, I thought, every day a little more.  And it’s more beautiful that I ever would have dreamed.

It wasn’t always so.  For long seasons of my life I was wrapped in a weary dullness so dense and heavy that some days it was all I could do to put one foot in front of another to keep on keeping on.

I tell you that to give you hope in case you’re in a struggle of your own.  Here, take this little light beam and tuck it in your pocket.  Let it be a promise to your heart that one day you will open to life’s joy.  One day you will be so filled with it that every cell of your body will sing.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t know how.  You can learn.  And it’s not a matter of hit and miss anymore either.  The ways are known and proven.

In a few short weeks, I’ll be launching another blog with tools you can use to release more happiness into your life.  For now, just be kind to yourself.  You’re not hopeless.  Far from it.  You’re a magnificent being, living in a breathtakingly beautiful world.  It’s just a matter of seeing it, of knowing that it’s the truth.  That’s what I’m trying to share with you in these little daily essays—how beautiful it is, how wondrous, and funny, and glorious, and easy, and glad.  And most of all, how full of love it is.  And that love is singing a dawn song to you right now, to paint your sky with joy, and to bring you the gift of waking to happiness.
