The Legacy of the Leaves

Fallen Maple Leaves.

Throughout the summer, they gathered light to feed the trees.  They sent sweet shade and sang sweet songs to all the earth’s creatures.

They rustled in the breezes and danced through the storms.

They sent their green hues to cool and soften the landscape.  Whole worlds of crawling bugs thrived on the nourishment they provided.

They sheltered the thousand birds and whispered lullabies to their babies.

And when at last their work was through, they donned their finest hues and filled the skies with their glory.

Now their spirits rise on pungent fragrances as they bequeath their bodies to the earth, leaving behind their legacy of beauty, and comfort, and joy.
