October Struts Her Stuff: A Happiness Tale

Spruce Tree with Leaf BoaShe pulled a good one on us this time, I tell ya.  Here she was, all subdued and dainty-like, walzin’ her colors across the day thin as gauze.  Oh, she was pretty enough, and we would have settled for that.  But then, at the very last minute, she turns on her big razzmatazz.

It’s like the 4th of July when they come on with volleys of their best at the end.  Only hers is going on for days!  And just when you think it can’t get any better, she brings on some more.

Man, I got up this morning and here’s the old spruce struttin’ her stuff like nobody’s business.  She’s got this vine wrapped around her like some big ol’ feather boa, fluffed out and fluttering all fine.  I half expected her to start sidlin’ down the hill.

Then!  In come these gun metal clouds, all ominous and huge and rolling thunder over the sky.  And you think, well, here comes the rain.  This’ll be the end, for sure.

But just as I’m getting ready to head on inside, she lets loose with a blast of sunlight.  You know, the late afternoon kind, all golden.  And she aims it at those maples up on the hill and they like near explode your eyes what with those black clouds behind them and all.

Yup, it was a knock ‘em dead finale all right.  Wish you coulda been here to see it.

  • Second best, experiencing it through your eyes and ability to animate that experience, as you so uniquely do. OMG, I laughed out loud at the spruce! You just might be Mary Oliver’s cosmic litter mate :) .

  • Gotta admit, that spruce did it for me, too! Glad you had as much fun hearing the tale as I did watching it roll from my fingers.
